We are ready! This year’s Olympic Games are being held in Paris between the 26th July until the 11th August. If you are unable to get to Paris (if only we were there), we can of course watch these events live on our phones & screens as these exhilarating sporting accomplishments cannot be missed. The opening ceremony of the games this year is going to be an historic and unique event. Unlike most opening ceremonies it will not be held in a stadium, instead it will unfold along the Seine River, winding through the heart of Paris! The ceremony will be open to as many people as possible with giant screens and strategically placed speakers throughout this wonderful city.

The joy of the Olympic games is that all countries come together to compete and celebrate the achievements and excellence of each other. We could not be more excited that this year four supremely talented competitors from the British Virgin Islands are competing in the games. The Team BVI (IVB) athletes are Adeajah Hodge, Kyron McMaster, Rikkoi Brathwaite and Thad Lettsome.

Adeajah Hodge – Sprinter
Race: 200 meters
Date: August 4th, 2024
Time: 4:55 AM AST
Adeajah Hodge who is only 18 will be participating in the women’s 200 meters. Adeajah’s entry not only underscores her exceptional talent, but she is also the youngest female athlete from the BVI to compete in this event. In April 2022, she won the girls under seventeen 100m, 200m, and long jump at the Caritas games in Jamaica. After being selected to compete in the 200-meters at the World Athletics Championship in Budapest in August of 2023, she ran an outstanding time (22.82 seconds) and qualified for the semi-finals.

Rikkoi Brathwaite – Sprinter
Race: 100 meters
Date: August 3rd
Time: 5:45 AM AST
Rikkoi Brathwaite is prepared to showcase his extraordinary speed in this year’s Olympic games. Brathwaite will be running the 100m sprint, one of the most highly anticipated and competitive races of the event. He set a British Virgin Islands national record during a tune up meet last weekend in preparation for the Paris Olympics. On July 19th, Brathwaite competed in the Holloway Pro Classic meet in Gainesville, Florida where he ran his heat race in the men’s 100-meter sprint and broke the national record by running in 10 seconds.

Kyron McMaster – Hurdler
Race: 400m Hurdles
Date: August 5th
Time: 4:05 AM AST
World Championship silver medalist and 2-time Diamond League Champion, Kyron McMaster is a phenomenal talent and placed 4th in the 400m Hurdles Final in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
Kyron McMaster born and raised in the British Virgin Islands and after losing his coach (Xavier “Dag” Samuels) in 2017 due to hurricane Irma, he has made sure that he did his best in his honor. With great dignity, he represented his country at the 2017 World Championships. He finished in the top three however, he was disqualified due to a lane infringement. Nonetheless, he didn’t let that shun him away from winning the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England in 2022. Then he won the NACAC Championships that same year in Freeport, Bahamas. In 2023 he came second in the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Thad Lettsome- Sailor
Race: ILCA 7 (Laser)
Date: August 1st-5th
With such great passion and accomplishments in sailing, Thad Lettsome is making history by being the only BVIslander to compete in the Olympic Games in sailing since 1996 when 2x Olympian Robby Hirst last competed! He has been doing an extraordinary job representing and making the BVI proud of his accomplishments. He placed 8th in the San Salvador 2023 CAC Games and qualified in the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.

Come on Team IVB – we could not be prouder of you!
